Prompt: Pick one of the connection based questions and answer it in your blog. Be sure to write out the question.

Prompt Response:  (Q):  Look at how your friendships or social groups have changed over time. What tends to cause those  shifts? (pg. 120) My friend groups and social groups have changed a lot over the years. Typically what affects these relationships is jealousy. I have been in multiple friendships where I get closer with other people and it causes issues with my other friends. My friends would get upset if I got closer with other people which ended up staining my relationship with everyone. This put me in tough positions having to choose who to hang out with and how to hang out with all of my friends without angering anyone. Summary: We did vocab practice and read chapter 12 as a class and answered questions. Reflection:  This vocab practice helped me better understand how to use the words.

Prompt: Based on the first 40 minutes of the film and Chapters 1–11 of the book, does the visual version of Chris’s journey make his choices seem more justified or more reckless than the text does? Explain how the medium (film vs writing) shapes your perspective.

Prompt Response:  The movie made Chris's actions more justifiable, considering it looked as if he was living in survivable areas like the bus and was around people throughout his travels so far. Although the movie emphasized how he up and left his family and sent back their letters back, making his actions somewhat unjustifiable. In my opinion the movie made Chris's adventure so far looks a lot less dangerous than the book made it seem. I do think his journey will get more intense as the movie goes on. I do also think that the movie justifies Chris's actions more by how if shows Chris as such a more happy person, than the book portrays him as. Summary: We watched the "Into The Wild" movie and answered questions about the movie v.s the book. Reflection:  Watching the movie helped me gain a better perspective on how Chris is as a person.

Prompt: Think about a moment when your understanding of your family changed as you got older. How did that shift impact your perspective, and how does that connect to Chris’s realization about his parents in Chapter 11?

Prompt Response:  The older I got I grew to find out that some of my family members aren't as good of people as I assumed. This was a hard thing for me to realize, but deep down I always had an odd feeling about this said person. Seeing their true colors revealed a lot to me, it made me realize that just because someone is family doesn't mean they can be trusted. Sadly not all people are good and those people might just happen to be those closest to you.  Summary: In class today we went over lessons and values for our families and then completed an assignment on chapter 11 of Into The Wild. Reflection:  This assignment helped me process the events more thoroughly throughout the chapter.

Prompt: Reflect on your reading of Into the Wild chapters 1–10. Which chapter stood out to you the most, and why? In your response, explain what specifically made this chapter meaningful, interesting, or impactful. You may consider elements such as McCandless’s actions, a key event, a theme, or Krakauer’s storytelling.

Prompt Response:  I enjoyed the chapter about Everett. I thought it was inspiring but also sad. I liked how he was outgoing and lived his life for his own happiness not others. I also thought it was cool how even though he lived a life with so many setbacks, he still worked for what he wanted. It was really sad when he died and revealed how much he impacted his community. It was a very entertaining chapter. Summary: We took a test on the book Into The Wild, chapter 1-10. Reflection:  I think I did well, I read every chapter and I read through summary's of the chapters to better remind myself of the events.

Prompt: Chris McCandless rejects a traditional path of success and instead defines success on his own terms through freedom, experience, and personal meaning. Reflect on what success means to you at your current stage in life. In the response, explain how success is currently defined (grades, college acceptance, achievements, happiness, etc.) and where those ideas come from. Then, consider whether that definition truly reflects personal values or if it is shaped by expectations from family, school, or society.

Prompt Response:  McCandless makes me realize these aren't actually my values—they are inherited pressures . Deep down, I value the freedom of a weekend with friends or a hobby I actually enjoy, but those don't get me a diploma at the end of the day. My current definition of success is making my way through high school balancing relationships and grades at the same time. It's not always easy but it's all worth it. Summary: In class today we answered our classmates open ended questions about the book and completed an assignment while reading chapters 9-10. Reflection:  The assignment let me connect to the book making it more interesting.

Prompt: Chris chooses independence over relationships. When have you chosen to be on your own instead of relying on others? What happened, and would you make the same choice again?

Prompt Response:  Iv'e chosen independence over relationships through the things I do. Many people I know partake in not so good things. This leads many people to fall under peer pressure but I don't. I choose to make my own choices on what I do based on what I think is best for myself, not what others do or think I should do. Even though these people are my friends doesn't mean I have to follow in their footsteps down a bad path, I can be independent. Summary: We answered opinionated questions about the book. Reflection:  Hearing my classmates thoughts on these questions helped me understand McCanndles better than I did before.

Prompt: Choose a vocabulary word from Lesson 10 that resonates with you personally. Write a blog post explaining why this word is significant to you, including any personal memories or experiences that link you to the word.

Prompt Response:  If I could describe myself with any of the vocab for this unit I would choose "largesse". I would say I'm a very largesse person. I love giving and try my hardest to be a good person even when I don't want to. I would say I'm very largesse because I try to donate money as often as I can.  Summary: In class today we did vocab practice. Reflection:  This helped me practice the vocab and understand it better.

Prompt: For most of you, yesterday you took the SAT. If you did not, you will take it before you leave high school. What is your desired SAT score? Identify your top three colleges and explain why each school appeals to you.

Prompt Response:  I don't exactly have a specific goal for the SAT because my main focus is the ACT. I'm a very bad tester and wasn't given my extra time on this SAT so I'm not expecting the best score, but I'm hoping for above an 1200 at least. My dream is to get into UGA but I know that is likely unrealistic. If not UGA i'm hoping GCSU or Auburn. Summary: Today we did an assignment reflecting on chapter 7. Reflection:  This helped me to better understand the chapter.

Prompt: Twice a year we adjust our clocks for daylight saving time, but the change can affect our sleep, energy, and daily routines. Now that we have sprung forward; reflect on how this time change impacts you personally. Do you find it easy or difficult to adjust your schedule? Explain how the time change affects your mood, productivity, or daily habits.

Prompt Response:  I have a very big disliking towards daylight savings. It is always so difficult for my sleep schedule to readjust to the time change. On Monday morning I had to force myself to stay awake all day and I still sleepy through my 2nd period.z iv'e been very tired this week and knowing this I still for some reason stay up late. one thing I do enjoy about the time change is that the mornings are dark. I love the feeling of the morning drives on the way to school being relaxing and peaceful. Even though i'm left insanely tired all day, it's worth it for the dark morning drives to school. Summary: In class today we read chapter 6 and completed a worksheet on it. Reflection:  The assignment forced me to focus more eon what I was reading, so I was able to answer the questions correctly.

Prompt: In Chapter 5 of Into the Wild, McCandless is strongly influenced by writers like Jack London, whose stories shape the way he thinks about adventure and wilderness. Has a book, song, musician, or artist ever influenced the way you think about life, goals, or the world around you? Identify the specific book, song, musician, or artist and explain how their ideas or message affected your thinking.

Prompt Response:  The singer Olivia Rodrigo has shaped how I think about things. He music connects very well with teens in specific teen girls. Some of her songs have in some way put my thoughts into song lyrics and has better allowed me to understand why certain things happen. She has specifically opened my eyes on relationships with friends and boys. I appreciate her music and the message it sends out. I also think her songs are very catchy so the lyrics stick with people and reminded them of her messages throughout her songs. Summary:  In class we read chapter 5 of "Into The Wild" and answered questions about the chapter. Reflection:  The questions let me gain a deeper meaning of the events throughout the chapter.

Prompt: People sometimes feel the need to step away from their normal routines or environments in order to better understand themselves. Describe a time when you needed distance from a situation, place, or group of people in order to think more clearly or gain perspective. What did that experience teach you about yourself?

Prompt Response:  With Adhd I struggle with staying on task and focused. Even though I'm on medication for my Adhd it's still a constant struggle especially in school. There have been many times where I've needed to step outside the class for a breather and take a walk around the school fro a mental break. This helps me to regain focus and clear my mind from any stress and random thoughts that come from chatter distracting me while I work. I do this a lot, especially with my power pass accommodation, it's helped me a lot through high school especially junior year with all the stress its given me.  Summary: In class today we individually read chapters 2-3 and did a work sheet on the themes of the book so far. Reflection:  This helped me grasp a better understanding of the books message, theme and story line.

Prompt: After reading Chapter 1 of Into the Wild, consider your first impression of Christopher McCandless. Based solely on the events and details presented in this opening chapter, do you believe McCandless truly understood the risks he was taking when he entered the Alaskan wilderness? Why or why not?

Prompt Response:   Based solely on Chapter 1, McCandless did not understand the risks because he was'nt prepared by how  under-equipped and ignored he was. He lacked basic survival gear, carrying only a small-caliber rifle, no compass, and a simple road map—which Jim Gallien noted was entirely insufficient for the harsh Alaskan bush. His dismissive reaction to Gallien's warnings about the terrain and food scarcity proves he prioritized a romanticized vision over the lethal reality of the wilderness. This makes me think that McCandless is cocky, thinking he can take on anything, naive, and ignorant. Summary: We started reading the book "Into The Wild". Reflection:  We completed the first chapter and it gave me an idea of what the book was maybe going to be about.

Prompt: Today you worked on creating your Vocabulary Digital Cards in Adobe Express. In one well-developed paragraph, reflect on the assignment by explaining which vocabulary word was easiest for you to understand, which word was most challenging, and how creating your own sentence and selecting an image helped strengthen your understanding of the vocabulary. Use specific examples from your work.

Prompt Response: The assignment on Adobe express allowed me to better understand the words and how to use them in a sentence. The word "bumpkin" is a confusing word to remember considering it is an odd word that has an unexpected definition to it. It means an unsophisticated person. An easy word for me is "toady", It is a person who flatters people. I feel like it's easy to remember because I see it as a flashy word which is similar to the definition of the word. Putting all of the vocab definitions into sentences let me gain better understanding of how the words are used and in which context they're used. Summary: In class today we completed our vocab assignment of Adobe. Reflection:  This let me understand the words definitions better.
