Prompt: Write about something that you believed as a child.

Prompt Response:  Growing up, I was an avid believer in fairies. I loved fairies as a child, and I would spend all my free time outside building fairy houses in hopes one would come and visit. I recently saw a video from when I was younger of my family and me on a camping trip with my younger brother running in circles on a pretend Harry Potter broom around the fire while I was making a fairy house. My brother then continues to trip and fall on his face and cry, but I was even more upset since he apparently almost fell onto my fairy house. I love this video because it's so funny how I only cared about my fairy house rather than the fact that my brother completely ate it. It also reminds me of the time when I was growing up, believing in all the made-up, nostalgic characters that every kid, at some point, was convinced were real.  Summary: In class today, we reviewed old campaign ads and commercials and said if they were ethos, pathos, or logos, and why. We then got started on ...

Prompt: As you grow older and face new experiences, what issue or topic do you think you'll have to stand up and debate most often, whether with friends, family, or society?

Prompt Response:  As I grow older, I will always stand by the fact that abortion is healthcare and that women should have the choice of what they get to do with their own body without being called a "murderer". I will never change my opinion on this topic and will always continue to debate and inform people on abortion. Many people, including my friends, are very naive to what's happening in the world and how it could affect them and their future family and friends. I won't call anyone's opinions stupid to their face, but I will think and then continue to inform them of the topic they usually know nothing about. Most people with whom I debate or discuss this topic or similar causes often lack a clear understanding of the subject matter and often rely on a single, unreliable source for their information. Summary: In class today, we took notes and went over different types of claims and how to argue them. We ended class with an assignment where we made our own examp...

Prompt: Write about a truth you were afraid to accept.

Prompt Response:  A time when I was afraid to accept the truth was realizing that I realistically won't make it into my dream college. My dream college is UGA, visiting down there for games and watching them on TV, my whole life has always set me with the expectation of going there. That was until I then realized UGA's acceptance rate is 32.9%. This was a sad, but needed realization. As an A-B student with a mediocre GPA and a lack of high-level or AP classes, my chances are slim. My goal is to write a breathing college essay and try my hardest to get a good score on the ACT to increase my chances of getting in. But I have come to learn that whatever college I end up at, it will be ok and that I can also always transfer to UGA later in college. Summary: In class today, we took notes on how to form an argument. We also learned how to use ethos, pathos, and logos. After our note-taking, we then spent the last 10 minutes of class, spending more time on an ethos, pathos, and logos ...

Prompt: Write about a time when you were judged unfairly.

Prompt Response:  A time that I was unfairly judged was this homecoming when I invited my friend Walker from Chamblee to come to Lakeside homecoming with me. I didn't have a date, so it was pretty last-minute. Walker is a very good friend of mine from church, I've known for years, so bringing him to my homecoming as friends didn't seem like a big deal to me. When I talked to my friends for their opinion, asking if it was a good idea, I idemitly got flamed, with people saying "That's embarrassing.", and "No one likes him," knowing no one in that group chat is actually friends with him and enough to judge him. This caused me to feel very self-conscious about bringing him to the different hoco activities throughout the night, thinking I'd be judged for bringing him. I ended up inviting him still, but the thought of being judged by my friends still lingered in the back of my mind throughout the night. Summary: In class today, Mr. Rease wasn't her...

After viewing your classmates’ poem posters, select one presentation that caught your attention. Describe what you enjoyed about it or something new you learned from their work.

Prompt Response:  A poem that caught my attention was the poem about baking and how you make the recipe for your own life. I don't quite remember the girl's name who created the poem, but I do remember how much that poem stood out to me. I loved the pictures, along with the themes and extended metaphor included in the poster. I appreciated the creativity and different symbols. I also liked how she strayed away from the cliché theme I saw in many of my classmates' poems. Summary: In class today we all presented our poem posters and gave each poster a rating. We ended class by taking notes. Reflection:  I learned more about my classmates today in the way they view life through the themes seen throughout their poems.

Imagine you are learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the very first time. What would you be curious to know about the traditions, foods, music, or celebrations?

Prompt Response:  If I were learning about Hispanic and Latina heritage for the first time, I would be curious about the bright colors they traditionally wear to celebrations and what they represent. I would also be interested to know how and who initiated their traditions. I do know some answers to my question, but I would still like to hear the answer in a more in-depth response, to gain a deeper understanding of why. Summary: In class today, we finished our notes on writing an essay. We also practiced thesis statements and key points to make when picking a topic for an essay. Reflection:  In class today, I learned key points to focus on when picking out a topic to write my essay about.

It’s Homecoming Week! 🎉 What do you love most about being part of the Lakeside community? How do you show off your school spirit? What is your favorite Homecoming tradition or event?

Prompt Response:  My favorite thing about being a part of the Lakeside community is the people. Throughout high school, I have formed so many long-lasting friendships that have all changed my life for the better. I show off my school spirit by being a part of SGA to help make the school a more fun, lively environment for the students. I also participate in all spirit week days and attend the majority of the football games to support our team. My favorite homecoming tradition has to be powderpuff. It is such a fun experience to bond with people I might not usually talk to, and it gives me something to do on the weekends when we practice for the game. I also love watching the boys' powderpuff and cheering on my friends who are playing. Summary: In class today, we took a quiz on a poem we dissected and annotated earlier in the week. I got a 90% on it! Reflection:  I learned that poems are really not confusing once you dive deeper into their meaning and not just pay attention to t...

Of today’s 15 vocabulary words, which three do you think you will use the most in your speaking and writing this semester? Explain why each word feels useful or powerful to you.

Prompt Response:   The words from our vocabulary list I will use the most throughout the semester are aminosity, aesthetic, and affinity. I would use the word "animosity" because when I think of it, I feel that it gives a stronger message across than other synonyms for the word, like "hated". The next word I will be using is "aesthetic." I like this word and the meaning behind it, it gives more meaning when describing something rather than using words like "cute" or "pretty". The last word is "affinity". I like the sound of this word, which automatically made it easy to remember the meaning, so I will use it more throughout the year, already having the definition memorized. Summary: In class today, we reviewed 15 vocabulary words and created sentences that included these words. We then continued to work on other activities to help practice our vocabulary. Reflection:  I learned the meaning of many new words today.

Which aspect of creating a poem do you enjoy the most? Tell what it is and explain why.

Prompt Response:  My favorite aspect of creating a poem is finding ways to incorporate the 5 senses into the poem. I enjoy the challenge of having to incorporate the 5 senses without the poem sounding like a mouthful of filler words. I think it adds character to the poem and makes it more interesting. Adding one of the 5 senses helps to create a more descriptive poem where the reader can gain a better idea of the writer's different symbols and meanings throughout the poem. Summary: In class today, we started our poems. Reflection:  I learned how to write poems comparing different things, like I did in my poem.

Which learning method do you enjoy the most? Class discussions, worksheet work, or hands-on actvities. Select one and tell why.

Prompt Response:  I like hands-on activities because they make me feel less bored and help me retain the information better than staring at a worksheet. Especially with American lit being my last class of the day, being handed a sheet of paper to take notes or work on the whole class period is draining. I also enjoy working with groups; it gives me the chance to bond with my classmates while still getting my work done. Summary: In class today, we finished writing our poems and put them into Adobe, and made a poster explaining our poem in depth. Reflection:  I got a better understanding of how to use the Adobe browser today.

You are currently working on a soundtrack for selected Emily Dickinson poems. With that in mind, if asked to choose a song to describe your life right now, which song would you select and why?

Propt Response: A song that currently describes my life at the moment is "Messy" by Lola Young. I don't like this song, but I feel that it describes the current state of my room. It also describes how disorganized I am with my multiple missing assignments. I just got on a new Adhd medicine, so hopefully this soon changes and helps me to become more organized. Summary: I was not in class on Friday, I was getting my license! Reflection: I was not in class on Friday, I was getting my license!

After reading Lawrence Ferlinghetti's poem "Constantly Risking Absurdity," which explores the poet's daring craft, write about your most absurd personal experience. Describe a single, specific incident that felt ridiculously bold or foolish. Ensure your response is vivid, concise, and captures the essence of absurdity.

Prompt Response: A time that had me feeling absurd and foolish is when I tried out for the Lakesdie volleyabll team for the 3rd year in a row and made jv for the seocnd year in a row. This left me feeling foolish and embarssed. I am now on Jv praying I have a slot on varsity next year. I feel that being put on jv though has helped me to get more playing time than I would have gotten on Varsity. Summary: Today in class, we analyzed a poem that we are being tested on Friday about. We also watched a video of a man walking on a typerope over the Grand Canyon. Review: I learned about the man who walked on a rope across the Grand Canyon's family and reaosning for persuing what he does.

You’ve been in American Literature for 4.5 weeks now. How has the class been going for you so far?

Prompt Response:  It's hard to believe that it's only been 4.5 weeks since school started; it feels much longer. This class has been going well so far. I appreciate not having much homework besides blog posts. I don't like that we have blog posts on Friday, though. Besides that, though, I have definitely improved my annotating skills through all of the poems we have been deciphering in class. Summary: I wasn't in class today, I was sick. Reflection:  I wasn't in class today, I was sick.

If you were to compose a poem about one aspect of your life, which topic would it fall into and what would your overall life's message be?

Prompt Response:  If I were to compose a poem about any aspect of my life, I would write it about sunsets. I would write about sunsets because, even though they're not a big part of my life, they still bring me happiness and remind me that there are such things as happy endings. The topic of the poem is about the beauty that surrounds us, which we can see every day. My overall life message would be that just because something doesn't greatly affect someone's life doesn't mean it can't change them. Summary: Today in class, we reviewed Emily Dickinson's poems and then created a soundtrack based on the poems. Reflection:  I learned that some songs I listen to have deeper meanings than I thought.
